The journal “Latvijas Arhīvi”
is issued 2 times a year.
The journal publishes articles in Latvian and
scientific articles in English, Russian and German as well. Scientific articles
in Latvian are supplemented with a summary in English or German, but scientific
articles in other languages – with a summary in Latvian. The table of
contents of the journal is published in Latvian, English and German.

The journal “Latvijas Arhīvi”
publishes scientific articles on science of archives and archival work
experience, scientific articles on different issues of the history of Latvia,
which have been created as a result of research of historic sources (especially
archival documents), as well as scientifically prepared publications of
historic sources. The latest information concerning the most important events
in the life of Latvian State Archives, the most recent books, articles on
personalities important for the development of Latvian Archives and the science
of history, and chronicles of Latvia State Archives, are included in the
journal.
The content of
journal “Latvijas Arhīvi” is made up of regular sections:
1. Archives: scientific articles in the science
of archives, analytical articles on the work of Latvian archives and
theoretical and practical issues of experience in archives modernization,
clusters of archives documents important in historic research and problems of investigating
archival documents;
2. History: scientific articles on topics of
history and cultural history of Latvia and other countries, scientific
publications of historic sources;
3. Visual archives: publications of visual
historic sources – photographs, drawings, maps, newsreel shots, etc.;
4. Archives life: articles informing about the
work of Latvian archives, international and Latvian conferences of archives and
history, exhibitions of archival documents, experience exchange events,
novelties in Latvian State Archives, etc.;
5. Personalia: articles about archivists and
historians of Latvia, whose contribution in the work of Latvian State Archives
and science of history is particularly significant;
6. Reviews: reviews of books submitted to the
editorial board of the journal and publications prepared by Latvian Archives;
7. Latest books: annotations to the most recent
scientific and popular science books, publications of historic sources, etc.;
8. Annals: the most important events in Latvian
State Archives.
A supplement to the journal, Vēstures
avoti (“Sources of History”), has been created, in which
important documents located in Latvian Archives are published.
The authors of the articles for
the journal “Latvijas Arhīvi” are Latvian and foreign archivists and science
workers, the teaching staff of Latvian and foreign higher educational
establishments, scholars of scientific research institutions and museums.
The manuscripts of the articles submitted to the
journal “Latvijas Arhīvi” are reviewed by the members of editorial board, as
well as other specialists of the National Archives of Latvia (according to
their specialization). The editorial board asks the best-qualified specialists
in the particular field – historians, archivists, philologists, art
historians, etc. – to give review of the manuscript submitted. On the
basis of the opinion of the editorial board and the reviewer, a decision about
publishing the article is taken.
Latvian Council of Science (9 July 2002 meeting
resolution No. 3-6-1) has included the section of scientific articles “History”
of the journal “Latvijas Arhīvi” in the list of universally recognized
scientific editions to be reviewed.
The journal “Latvijas Arhīvi”
is available at the National Library of Latvia, Latvian
Academic library of the Latvian University, Library of the
National Archives of Latvia, Library of the University of Latvia,
Library of the Latvian Academy of Culture, Riga Central Library,
Library of Daugavpils University, Rēzekne Higher Education Institution, etc.
The journal is available also
at the Libraries of Archives of neighbour countries – Estonia, Russia,
Lithuania, Finland, Germany.
