According to the Terms of Reference the Latvian State Historical Archives administrate National Documentary Heritage of the Latvian archival fund of 1220–1945:
  • documents of state and local authorities, courts, estates, religion, political and public organizations
  •  documents of enterprises and other legal persons
  •  documents of private persons

6311 archival funds contain 6 349 095 files.
