This book offers an insight into the history of one small social group – prostitutes of Riga in the 20ies and 30ies of the 20th century – and evidence in the collection of Latvia State Historical Archive concerning this aspect of past. This is the fourth edition in the series “Vēstures Avoti” (Sources of History) of the journal “Latvijas Arhīvi”. It differs from the previous three volumes, which focused on historic document that sent a direct message and formed a dialogue with the reader and researcher of history. This time the approach to publishing historic evidence is a different one. We offer a cluster of data, which is made up by information obtained from a great volume of archive documents that has been processed using mathematical methods. The authors have also selected documents they consider as best characterizing the materials on prostitution kept in the Archives and included them in the book.
